A Promise to Your Child
At Watts Chapel, we believe that children are a precious gift from God, and it is our privilege as parents, families, and a Church community to commit to raising them in a God-honoring way. Child Dedication is a meaningful way for parents to publicly declare their intent to raise their children with a biblical foundation and in a loving, Christ-centered environment. This moment is not about salvation but rather a promise to honor God in the way we parent.
A Commitment, Not Salvation
Child Dedication is a significant milestone in the life of a child and their family. It's important to note that Child Dedication does not equal salvation. Salvation is a personal decision that comes when an individual chooses to follow Jesus Christ and accept Him as their Lord and Savior.
While Child Dedication is a beautiful tradition, it’s a public declaration made by parents that they recognize their children belong to God and are entrusted to them as stewards of His gift.
This is a time for parents to commit to raising their children in a way that honors the Lord, teaching them His truths and guiding them toward a relationship with Him. It's a special moment where parents, the Church, and the community stand together in prayer and support, pledging to help raise the next generation in the ways of God.
Godly Wisdom for Parents
The Bible gives us clear instructions about how we should raise our children. In Ephesians 6:4, we are reminded:
"Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord."
This verse calls parents to approach child-rearing with patience, love, and intentionality, focusing on God’s wisdom and the truth of His Word. Child Dedication is not just a ceremony but a lifelong commitment to raising children who know, love, and follow Jesus.
As parents, we must guide our children toward a deeper understanding of God's grace, model Christ-like behavior, and teach them biblical truths that will shape their lives. It’s a continual process that requires faith, effort, and the support of a loving community.
What to Expect During the Dedication
During the Child Dedication ceremony, parents will have the opportunity to make a public commitment before the congregation to raise their child in a manner that reflects the love and teaching of Christ.
The Church will join in prayer for the child and their parents, asking for God’s guidance and blessing over the child’s life. This ceremony is a beautiful, heartfelt moment where we celebrate the joy of new life and the responsibilities of godly parenting.
A Shared Commitment
We understand that Child Dedication is a commitment not only for the parents but also for the Church family. As part of our Church community, we pledge to walk alongside you, supporting you in prayer, encouragement, and discipleship as you raise your children in the Lord.
Together, we can create a foundation of faith that will last for generations. Let us join in with a commitment to God’s plan for your child and your family’s journey.
